Fighting an unwinnable war — Steve Dennis

It’s an old adage that we should choose our battles wisely.

And yet…

… we get into stupid political arguments with folks who are so stuck in their fear or ignorance or ego that nothing we say will change their minds-even if we happen to be right (whatever that means).

…we pick fights with folks who clearly have the upper hand.

…we spend our time pointing out the perceived failings of others when the reality is the war is so often within ourselves.

…we beat ourselves up because our job, our vacation, our latest meal, our outfit, our significant other, our home decorating, our kids’ trophies, and on and on, aren’t as fabulous as something we see on the preening highlight reel of life we call social media.

…we frequently chase what the competition puts into the market out of fear of losing relevance (or getting beat up by Wall Street), even if it makes no economic sense.

It’s a trap.

And one that typically only serves to make us miserable.

Never try to teach a pig to sing. It wastes your time and it only annoys the pig.

Accept the things you cannot change, have the courage to change the things you can and find the wisdom to know the difference.

Be yourself. Everyone else is already taken.

Never engage in a race to the bottom. You might win. Or worse, finish second.
